Our letter today comes from Becca, who's in a long distance relationship with a guy who's got a "too busy" schedule for her even as he's telling her he wants to settle down. She's not buying it and wants to know if she should stay or go.

Here's her story and my response:

Hi Jane,

I'm dating a film director who informed me from the jump that his schedule can be hectic and sometimes he may not be able to reply etc. He also told me his career comes before anything and anyone!

He's organizing his film premiere and I haven't heard from him in 4 days.

In general, I always get a hold of him or hear from him. We're in a long distance relationship, he's coming to see me in a couple of weeks and I just don't know if I can handle him choosing his career over me.Continue Reading

She's wondering about the behaviour of a guy she's been in contact with for two and a half months, after meeting him doing an archaelogical dig.

Here's her story:

Hi Jane,

I'm single and turned 41 on Saturday. Saturday night I went to the local bar for my b-day and an older, attractive man kept asking me to dance (he was 55.)

We danced all night and had a great time. He drove my friend and I home and I gave him my number - he didn't ask I said do you text and he said yes. I said here is my number...I didn't have my phone with me at the bar.

Anyway, I feel disappointed because I never heard from him and he is stuck in my head 🙁 That's the worse part of it ... I keep going over and over stuff in my mind.

Jane,

So my boyfriend will talk to me in person but never messages me or starts the conversation, and when I dont text him he get worried, but he says he doesn't like talking on the phone or texting.

And when I want to plan something with him I can never get a hold of him long enough to ask what we should do together - I mostly get hung up on in the first minute of talking, or he puts himself on mute so I can't hear him.Continue Reading

Help! I've Tried Talking to Him but He Still Does the Same Thing

Here's what she wrote ...

I have been with this guy for quite some time. At first, we would meet up as often as possible - like twice in a week - but now not so often because we are both busy and I only get to see him once every two weeks.

The major concern is that he never communicates even if it's a good morning or calling in the evening to know how my day was. It seems like a task for him. He rarely initiates conversations unless I do or tells me he loves me unless I do.

He would go for days without texting me or even calling even if it's for a few minutes just checking up on me unless I do myself. Yet when he does,after days several days, he acts like we are okay.

At times he leaves me on read on whatsapp and yet he is online on several occasions.

I have tried talking to him about my concerns and he still does the same thing.Continue Reading

He said he'd call yesterday, but didn't. Why does this make me feel so needy?

Why don't I just contact him? It's been going well so far.

So afraid of being vulnerable and of finding out he's not as committed as I hoped. And that I'll then put up with it...

How do I approach this without sounding like a lunatic and without compromising myself? Is it OK to say "I was expecting to hear from you; is all OK?"
