My Boyfriend is Still Friends With His Exes

A group of male and female friends are out together socially at a restaurant.
He started calling her a friend rather than an ex.

Gorgeous Sherrie writes about her long-distance boyfriend who likes to bring up his "accomplished" exes (who he still maintains friendships with) in conversation. She's wondering if her feelings about this are normal or if she's overreacting.

Here's her story:

Hi Jane,

My question is about my boyfriend's two ex-girlfriends.

My boyfriend is a wonderful man. We have been in a long-distance relationship (USA and Australia) for two and a half years. We FaceTime each week and SMS or text other days. We spent three months living together a year ago when I was working on a project in the US.

We see each other every 6 months. He is coming to spend Christmas and New Years with me this year.Continue Reading

I Feel Like I'm Always Initiating Contact

A beautiful woman lies in bed looking at her cell phone, wondering why he disappeared and won't answer her texts.
I miss him but I feel like I should wait for him to contact me.

One of our beautiful readers, who I'll call Sarah, is feeling like she's on the wrong side of a one-sided long distance relationship.

Here's her story:

My boyfriend and I have been dating just coming up on 6 months. He is nothing like anyone I've ever dated before and that's what I found most appealing.

Now he just moved to the Middle East for a new job, and I'm here in the U.S. and our communication isn't as I hoped anymore.

Full disclosure I told him I loved him before he left..and I knew beforehand so it wasn't just because he was leaving. When I agreed to tell him I was fully prepared for him not to return the sentiment so when he said thank you, I was kind of okay with it.Continue Reading

Can I Really Say We're In a Relationship?

Woman lying on floor on a video call using laptop in a long distance relationship.
We video call each other often but is it really a relationship?

One of our beautiful readers, Kylie, has been dating a man virtually for over a year, but they haven't yet met in person. She's wondering if this qualifies as a real relationship.

Here's her story:

Hi Jane,

I have been  dating this guy for more than a year now  and we are in a long distance relationship.

We basically never met each other yet the entire time we are dating. Though we do video call each other most of the time and text and call everyday, I don't feel like we are a thing because we are far away from each other.

We have been through ups and downs and it wasn't easy for the both of us but I am amazed how we always tried our best to make things work despite the distance and the problems we encounter.

We had broken up three times but he always comes back to me and he was the one who ended the relationship in the first place.Continue Reading

He Says He Loves Me, But He's Acting So Emotionally Distant

A beautiful woman is hugging her boyfriend, wondering why he's getting emotionally distant.
Is it because he doesn't want me or because I'm not able to see what he needs?

One of our beautiful readers, Linda, has a boyfriend whose studies will be separating them soon, and he's beginning to get emotionally distant.

Here's her story:

Hi Jane!

Hope you can help me, because I do feel confused...

I'm in a relationship with this guy since March. I met him for the first time when I was 15 (now I'm 18) because we went out with the same group of friends. We've always been sort of attracted to each other but we actually started texting/talking in December...

Then in March we got together. It all started very well...He was so lovely and treated me like a princess... But I've always felt like he was not totally open with me... I talked a lot, he listened to me and showed he wanted to understand me for real even though I am pretty complicated as he says... He seems to know me better than I do sometimes...

He says to me a lot of beautiful things... So beautiful sometimes I feel like crying because I think to myself I am really bloody lucky to have him...

The problem is, that he will be leaving for University at the end of August and his studies will last more or less 10 years!!!!Continue Reading

After 2 Months He Suddenly Changed

A beautiful woman sits on the couch with her boyfriend unhappily because she feels he has changed.
He's basically nothing like the boyfriend I was first with!

One of our beautiful readers, Beatrice, finds herself in the all-too-common scenario of starting off in a relationship that's nothing but wonderful, only to have him slowly change, and not for the better. She's wondering if it's something she did.

Here's her email:

Dear Jane,

I am an exceptionally sensitive, confused soul right now. And my heart is breaking without any "real" proof that it needs to break, if that makes sense.

Here's my story:

I'm 23, and a very inexperienced dater.Continue Reading

He Isn't Sure What He Wants

A beautiful woman is on a date with a man.
He thinks we should "scale back" our relationship.

Our beautiful friend Adriana has a boyfriend who isn't sure what he wants, and says he wants to scale things back. They're currently in a long distance relationship that she's afraid is turning is turning into a long distance friends with benefits.

Here's her email:

My boyfriend moved a couple hours away for a new job and the original plan was that I would move down there as well (though we wouldn't be moving in together).

A few weeks ago, he mentioned that he was conflicted because he cares about me a lot and "thinks he's falling in love with me". But also wants to use this new move/job/change to focus on himself and focus on his career.

He said he wasn't sure about me moving down because if I was only moving down to be with him and "had expectations" about continuing our relationship and how things would be, then I probably shouldn't move. But if I was moving down there for myself and we could hang out when it was convenient, he'd be happy with that.Continue Reading
