Do you really know the REAL YOU?

If someone asked you to describe the real you, would you even know what to tell them? About who you really are? What you’re really capable of?

Do you have any idea how amazing, how unique, how special, how incredible you really are?

I didn’t think so.

Because most of the time, we’re thinking the opposite. That we’re so lacking. If we could just be more like so and so. If we were thinner, sexier, prettier, funnier, smarter… whatever.

You get the picture.

We think the reason we haven’t found love, why we’re still single, is because there’s something wrong with us. And we really believe there is. When we think like that, we find that we’re not surprised we haven’t found someone. Continue Reading

The Inspiration Box

Today I was sorting through a box of old papers and books I found tucked way up on a high shelf in the back of the closet.

I had all but forgotten about this box of sentimental items so carefully packed away in a corner of the closet, left over memories from a life I had almost forgotten about.

Among other things, in it I found some letters I wrote to myself back in my single days, when love seemed like such a faraway dream. Many of them were sayings and quotes that touched me deeply.

I would read these to myself on the dark, lonely nights, and they helped to inspire me to keep going.

One of the papers in particular caught my eye, as it had a poem written on it that I had come across long ago, and printed out to save in this special box. As I read it today, it brought back such a flood of memories for me, tears were streaming down my face as I remembered that earlier version of myself, so uncertain.

Anytime you’re trying to explain why it really is love, just stop.

I often hear women asking whether or not their relationship is the real thing.

Wondering if the guy they’re with is the right one for them. Wondering what they should do. And in most cases, as soon as they start describing their situation, it becomes pretty clear that there’s a lot more going on in their situation than love.

My mom called me the other day and asked what I’d like to do with all of my self-help books. All 987 of them.

OK, maybe it was more like 100, but you get the idea.

They were all of the relationship books that I left at her house when I finally had the courage to head off for California to follow my dreams. I didn’t have the space to take them with me, and couldn’t bear to get rid of them.

They had been such a good friend, so supportive during some of the darkest times of my life.  Such a shoulder to cry on.Continue Reading

The One That Made Me Sick (Literally!)

It was about 12 years ago, at a ski resort in South Lake Tahoe.

It was Thanksgiving, and my best friend and I had decided to take advantage of the long weekend and get out of Los Angeles to spend the holiday with her family in their vacation cabin.

So there we were, two single girls in our late twenties headed off for a fun filled weekend at the slopes.

Skiing? Oh no. There was none of that involved.

We were there for a much higher purpose – to meet MEN!

So we spent the weekend doing what we did best – we shopped during the day, and went out on the town at night.

I haven't heard from him - what should I do?

Last month we discussed the reasons he hasn’t called.

Since then, I've gotten a lot of questions about dating protocol regarding whether we should go ahead and call him or wait it out and see if he comes around.

It got me thinking about this topic and what’s really going on with this whole should I call him?, how long should I wait before it’s ok to call him?, etc.

Why do we put so much of our energy into trying to figure out this simple decision?

Because it has such implications.

Or does it? Does it really matter if we call him or not call him?
