Small Changes, Big Differences

2015 is your year for finding love.
Let's make 2015 the year to have the kind of love you want!

Welcome to 2015, gorgeous! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season celebrating love, joy, and abundance in whatever method you've chosen for your life.

As you know, I love the feeling of freshness, change and the endless possibilities for positive transformation that the idea of a new year brings.

But as much as I’ll always be the eternal optimist, I've also come to see the necessity of bringing in that realist perspective as well, and so I know that this idea of making huge changes in our lives all at once can seem overwhelming and a bit daunting.

And it also sets us up for one thing, and one thing only:

Failure.

So today I want to give you a few thoughts that will help you avoid failure this year by changing your mindset right from the start.

The key to any kind of lasting change is something that you've heard me talk about a lot here on the blog:Continue Reading

It's Time to Take a Stand

A beautiful woman in a black skirt and black blouse stands against a white background with her arms crossed, knowing that it's time for her to take a stand for what she believes in.The type of women we are, the loving, giving, caring, understanding, women we are, we'll do almost anything for love.

We'll do almost anything for our dreams. For the chance to make those dreams come true when we find someone that we think might be the one.

We give and we give and we give and we give.

And then we give some more.

We long for nothing more than to be loved the same way we love.

To be held the same way we hold.

To be made a priority the same way we make him a priority.

We get so caught up in this crazy quest for love that we forget to do the most important thing of all:

To stand.

To stand in the beautiful light of who we are.

We shrink so well.

We apologize all too well.

We minimize ourselves so effortlessly.

We comply so easily.

We accommodate like it's our natural state of being.

But we've forgotten how to stand.

We've been taught this since our first days on earth. We're rewarded with love and gifts for being good, for being nice, for being respectful, for being everything a good little girl should be.

When we finally venture out into the great big world beyond, it's only reinforced for us all over again.

Put everyone else first, before you, and you'll get along just fine. We do this just too well.

It's so ingrained in us; it's become a part of who we are.

Sitting, waiting, making ourselves smaller so that someone else's light can shine first. Apologizing for things that we never need to apologize for, downplaying our attributes so that we don't offend anyone with our pride. We've been down this road too far and too long.

It's time to remember what it means to stand.

To stand up for what we want.

To stand up for what we believe in.

To stand up for ourselves when things aren't the way we want them.

To stand up to someone we don't want to lose, but still say what's in our heart and on our mind.

To stand instead of running away when we're confronted.

To stand instead of backing down when we know what we need to do.

To stand and be silent when there's nothing more to say.

You see, something happens when we stand like this. When we stand in our own strength, in our own space, in our own steadiness. Something changes inside us. Something changes around us. Something changes about us.

We feel stronger for standing.

We feel more confident, more sure of ourselves, more able to speak our own truth calmly and confidently from a place of our truth instead of someone else's. We can focus better on ourselves, instead of everyone else.

It's the way we're meant to be. To stand like this.

Not standing over anyone, not standing under anyone, but standing as equals in the light of who we are and what we bring to the table.

It's your turn now. It's time to feel that power and strength that you own. It's time to show the world all that you are and all that you have to offer. You know this, even if you've forgotten it somewhere along the way.

It's time to take that stand!

What do you stand for? Share it with us in the comments. It's time.

What's Underneath

A beautiful woman is wondering why she's still single and she realizes that it's what's underneath, what's inside that counts.“If I know what love is, it’s because of you."

These are the words that are written on a simple but beautiful magnet on my refrigerator. When I first saw it, it brought home a truth that reached through to the core of me. It still does.

You see, back in my single days, regardless of what I appeared to have going for me on the surface, or how many people couldn't understand why someone like me was still single, the truth is that it’s never about what’s on the outside of us; it’s always about what’s on the inside.

Sure, externally I may have had what people thought was all you needed to not still be single – I had the look, the clothes, the job, the car, etc. Outwardly I seemed happy and outgoing.

But the reality was that inside was an entirely different story. I didn't even realize it until much later, but the truth, my truth, was that I really believed deep down inside that there was something wrong with me.

I believed that I was missing something that everyone else seemed to have, and somehow I didn't deserve to have the love that I so wanted.

It didn't matter how confident I came across on the outside, it didn't matter how together my life appeared to be. The reality of what I truly felt about myself and what I really believed was revealed by the type of men I was attracting and the type of men I found myself attracted to.

I could hide the truth from everyone around me, but I couldn't hide it where it mattered most.

And it’s the same for you.

It doesn't matter what you have or don’t have on the outside or what it seems like to anyone else. It’s all about you – the real you, underneath the external facade.

You may not even realize the details of your belief system. But that belief system is exactly what determines so much of who you are and what you do.

It quietly shows up in so many areas of your life, usually without you even noticing.

It determines what you see and how you see it, and it will bring you exactly what you believe to be true. It shows up in who you attract into your life and who you’re drawn towards.

But it doesn't have to.

When you see it, when you have that aha moment of clarity, it will seem so obvious.

But until then it’s anything but obvious.

You're probably thinking that you're doing everything right, but it's still not working.

I know because that's exactly what I used to think.

I can list out every single relationship I was in where the only way I knew to get through was to keep doing more of the same, to keep doing everything I thought I was doing that was so different but ended up being the same thing underneath every single time. I just couldn't see it at the time.

This is about your dream. It’s about your happiness. It’s about your life.

This isn't how life is meant to be lived, especially not your life.

This isn't what love is meant to feel like. This isn't how you’re meant to feel.

Soon there will come a time when you look at the men you've been (or still are) in relationships with, and you'll realize the truth of these words for you. But it won't happen until you try something different.

It’s your time. It’s your turn.

I'm here to help you, but I can’t do it without you.

Let's get there together.

We're All Human

A beautiful brunette woman is pulling her purple sweater close around her neck, looking into the camera and thinking we're all human.I was searching the internet for an electronic version of one of my favorite quotes by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

I clicked on this article from USA Today, and I have to say I was more than a bit surprised.

It was an article about this brilliant author that most of us came to identify with through her best-selling books of the 90’s, Simple Abundance, and my own personal favorite, Something More: Excavating Your Authentic Self.

But it was not the story I was expecting - the story of an author who found amazing success writing about her beautiful philosophy of everyday abundance.

No, this was the story of what happened after the success. The story I did not know about. The one where she lost everything and found herself washed up on her sister’s couch with only her old cat and the clothes on her back.

Because, you see, my beautiful friend, although we’re always so quick to assume that everyone else has something that we don’t, that everyone else – and especially a successful author like Breachnach - has something that we lack and thus we can never have what they have, the truth is that there is always so much more to these stories.

And as we read here, this is about so much more than the outward loss.

“The problem wasn't money. It was her emotional baggage about love and pleasing others that she attached to money, dating back to childhood.”

It was the shame.

“The worst was the shame. Here she was, a best-selling self-help expert, swamped by bills she couldn't bring herself to open, much less pay, whose creditors were threatening to call Oprah and expose her.”

Even though she was a hugely successful writer, she still fell prey to the same emotional traps that plague nearly all of us. She still fell into the same pitfalls on the journey to love, the journey to finding  herself, that we all fall into at one time or another.

We're all human.

Do you see a pattern here? It doesn’t matter what you achieve on the outside. It doesn’t matter what kind of name you make for yourself or what level of success you achieve for yourself in the eyes of the world. It doesn’t matter how much money or love you find.

If you don’t believe in yourself, if you don’t give yourself permission to live the life you were meant to live, if you don’t shed that old emotional story of having to please others and believing you have to do something or be something in order to be loved, then nothing is going to change. At least not for long.

Regardless of who you are.

So take them all down off of those pedestals you so easily put them on. Every single one of them, and especially the ones who you especially admire and look up to because they seem to have everything that you don’t.

They don’t.

They don’t deserve to be loved more than you.

They don’t deserve to be happy more than you.

They aren’t anything more than you are.

They don’t have anything you don’t.

They aren’t any “luckier” than you.

They're just like you.

You see, it’s always easier to live with ourselves when we can credit someone else and discredit ourselves. It’s easier because then we don’t have to do anything different. We can stay stuck, we can stay right where we are, believing that there’s nothing we can do to change our lives because we just don’t have what they do. It's something external.

It’s time to change that way of thinking, my beautiful friend.

It’s time to recognize all that you truly are! It’s time to believe in your own potential, in your own possibilities, and give yourself permission to live the life that you were meant to live.

Because living for someone else – or everyone else – is no way to live.

Because trying to please someone – or everyone – is an impossible standard that was never yours to live up to.

Because feeling ashamed – of anything! – is never what any one of us deserve, regardless of what we think we’ve done.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’ve been, or what your story is. You, that beautiful woman who has so much to offer, and nothing to prove, have everything you need to be all that you are, to create the life you were made for, to make your dreams come true.

It all starts with believing this, it continues with a plan, it happens when you start somewhere and keep moving. One step, one new way of seeing yourself, one belief in yourself at a time.

Dream Big - Part 2

A beautiful woman hugs a man from behind as they are both looking up and smiling as they dream big together. You’re beginning to get this. This is your life, your time, your dream.

No more waiting. It’s in the living of your own beautiful life that you create for yourself that you’ll find everything you’re looking for, my beautiful friend.

And your time is now.

No more believing our cultural programming that's telling you not to. You’re starting to see this now.

It’s a mindset.

So here you are. You've got your list of dreams.

You've got a clear picture of what you want your life to look like.

You’re taking steps to make this all a reality. To create the life you want right now, without any more waiting around for someone to come and give you a ready-made life.

Now here’s the beautiful part of this: knowing your dreams, having this new passion for what you want to do with your life, is going to help you to know if someone is right for you.

Make sure you can share your dreams with him.

He’ll be supportive. He’ll be excited for you. He’ll encourage you. He’ll want to hear all about them.

And he’ll probably be inspired to share some of his own with you.

When you connect like this, when you find he has his own dreams and you can share and plan your dreams together, you’ll know he’s someone worth getting to know better.

Because what I didn't understand back when I was single that I absolutely understand now, is that you’re not just looking for someone to share your life with, you’re looking for someone to share your future life with. To share you dreams and plans with. Not just today, but every day of every life stage as you grow and learn and grow some more together.

Can you dream your dreams together? Can you make a plan for them together? Can you picture yourselves living a life that respects and supports dreaming together?

Those are the big questions, my beautiful friend; the ones that really matter. I always knew I was a dreamer, but I never knew that what I was really looking for was someone to dream with me.

And now, knowing what I do, I know that’s not just for some lucky few.

Dream big, my beautiful friend, and then make sure he can dream big with you.

Dream Big

A beautiful woman is standing in a field with her arms outstretched, looking towards the sky as she starts to dream big. This is your life, my beautiful friend. With all of your dreams, your hopes, your desires.

You dream so big, but you ask for so little and you settle for even less.

You get so caught up in longing to begin your life with someone else, that you forget about this life you already have right here in front of you.

You falsely believe that if you just had the missing piece – him – everything else would fall perfectly in place.

But the reality is, that stage of your life will come. A time when it’s you and him. A time when “we” will replace “me” when it’s meant to be.

But right now, this is about you and your dreams and what kind of a difference in the world you can make just by being you and following your dreams and your passion.

Today, like no other time in history, you have the ability to make a difference. Right now. Right where you are.

With the internet, you can find more people like you, more community, more resources, more opportunities to connect. Which are all more outlets for making your dreams a reality.

Some of you have so graciously shared some of your ambitious, beautiful dreams with me and I've encouraged you to follow them and see where they take you.

I dare each and every one of you to take a chance on you to see where your own unique dreams may take you. Find a passion. Find your passion. It doesn't matter what it is, or what anyone else thinks about it, all that matters is that you believe that you have something to offer the world.

Because you do!

It’s your turn. It’s your life. Never again will you have this time all to yourself to choose how you want to spend every minute of it. This isn't about waiting around for your life to begin.

It’s about living the life you were born to live.

You choose.

You create it.

All you need to do is start somewhere. Anywhere.

You can do this no matter who you are. Because if I believe in you, and you believe in you, there’s no telling what you can do!
